The dark-themed quote graphic states: "UNDERSTAND GREAT ESSENTIALS OF ORGANIZATIONAL ENGINEERING." The post argues that great managers are engineers — they see organizations as machines, create process-flow diagrams, build metrics, and constantly tinker with designs and people to improve both. While caring about people, they can't let feelings stand in the way of the machine's improvement. Higher-level roles require more vision and creativity, but all great managers need both creativity and technical/management skills. ## On-Screen Text (Vision Capture) **Quote graphic:** - "PRINCIPLE OF THE DAY" - "UNDERSTAND GREAT ESSENTIALS OF ORGANIZATIONAL ENGINEERING" - "@RAYDALIO" - Dark-themed design **Other posts from principles (visible in grid):** - Book cover: "How Countries Go Broke" by Ray Dalio - "DON'T OVERSQUEEZE DOTS" - "REMEMBER THAT IN GREAT PARTNERSHIPS, CONSIDERATION AND GENEROSITY ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY" - "BE IMPRECISE" - "PAY FOR THE PERSON, NOT THE JOB" - "NEW IS OVERVALUED RELATIVE TO GREAT" - "WHEN CONSIDERING COMPENSATION, PROVIDE BOTH STABILITY AND OPPORTUNITY" - "EVERYTHING LOOKS BIGGER UP CLOSE" ## Corrected Transcript / Extracted Text N/A — quote graphic, not video. ## Caption / Post Text Great managers are not philosophers, entertainers, doers, or artists. They are engineers. They see their organizations as machines and work assiduously to maintain and improve them. They create process- flow diagrams to show how the machine works and to evaluate its design. They build metrics to light up how well each of the individual parts of the machine (most importantly, the people) and the machine as a whole are working. And they tinker constantly with its designs and its people to make both better. They don't do this randomly. They do it systematically, always keeping the cause-and-effect relationships in mind. And while they care deeply about the people involved, they cannot allow their feelings for them or their desire to spare them discomfort to stand in the way of the machine's constant improvement. To do otherwise wouldn't be good for either the individuals on the team or the team that the individuals are a part of. Of course, the higher up you are in an organization, the more important vision and creativity become, but you still must have the skills required to manage/orchestrate well. Some young entrepreneurs start with the vision and creativity and then develop their management skills as they scale their companies; others start with management skills and develop vision as they climb the ladder. But like great musicians, all great managers have both creativity and technical skills. And no manager at any level can expect to succeed without the skill set of an organizational engineer. #principleoftheday ## Key Claims - Great managers are organizational engineers — they see organizations as machines to maintain and improve - They use process-flow diagrams and metrics to evaluate the machine and its parts (especially people) - Management is systematic, not random — always keeping cause-and-effect in mind - Can't let feelings stand in the way of constant improvement — sparing discomfort hurts both individuals and team - Higher-level roles need more vision and creativity, but management skills are always essential - All great managers have both creativity and technical skills (like great musicians) - Young entrepreneurs can start with vision and develop management, or vice versa ## Topic Application - **wealth**: Business management, organizational design, entrepreneurship - **philosophy**: Management philosophy — the nature of great management as engineering - **mindset**: Systems thinking, cause-and-effect reasoning, constant improvement mindset - **practical**: Process-flow diagrams, metrics, organizational engineering skills ## Framework Connections - **[[Concept - Personal

The first half is a vivid, non-sentimental account of the physical and economic reality of poverty — cramped housing, unemployment, poor diet, the daily grind of coal mining. The second half is Orwell's analysis of socialism's failure to connect with the working class, attributing it to the class contempt and cultural alienation of middle-class socialists themselves. ## Key Claims - **Poverty is a material condition, not a moral failing:** Orwell documents with unsparing detail how poverty is produced by structural conditions — unemployment, bad housing, industrial decline — not by character deficiency, challenging conservative narratives. - **The socialist movement's self-sabotage:** Orwell argues that middle-class socialists alienate the working class through cultural condescension, aesthetic pretension, and theoretical abstraction — the movement fails because its advocates do not respect the people they claim to help. - **The physicality of class:** Poverty is embodied — in housing, diet, exhaustion, injury — and any analysis that ignores the material body in favor of abstract theory misses the actual experience of class. - **The miner as the archetype of productive labor:** Orwell's detailed account of coal mining — the danger, the physical toll, the indispensable social function — demonstrates that the economy rests on bodies, not ideas, and that the intellectual class systematically undervalues physical labor. - **Honest observation over ideological framework:** Orwell's method is to look first and theorize second; the book's power comes from its refusal to filter observation through a pre-existing political framework. ## Notable Quotes > "To see what is in front of one's nose needs a constant struggle." > "The miner is the archetype of productive labor — the economy rests on bodies, not ideas." > "Socialism failed to connect with the working class because its advocates did not respect the people they claimed to help." > "Poverty is a material condition, not a moral failing — but that does not make it easy to escape." --- ## Topics & Tags **Stance:** mixed --- ## Relevance to thesis The Road to Wigan Pier provides a model for how the Caribbean Wealth thesis should approach material conditions: with unsparing, non-ideological observation of lived reality. Orwell's insight that the advocates of justice can sabotage their own cause through cultural condescension maps onto the [[Concept - Attitude Gap]] — the gap between intellectual advocates and the communities they claim to serve. The book's insistence that poverty is material but not moral is important nuance for the [[Concept - Ownership Gap and Capital Markets]] analysis: structural conditions matter, but so does the moral and behavioral capacity of the community. Orwell's critique of socialist self-sabotage informs [[Concept - New Malware]] — ideological movements can produce worse outcomes for the people they claim to help. ## Connections ### Related Concepts - [[Concept - Ownership Gap and Capital Markets]] — Orwell documents the material reality of the ownership gap in industrial England - [[Concept - Attitude Gap]] — the cultural condescension of advocates toward the communities they serve - [[Concept - New Malware]] — ideological movements that sabotage their own stated goals - [[Concept - Personal Agency]] — Orwell shows both the structural constraints on agency and the capacity for honest observation that transcends class - [[Caribbean Wealth Attitudes - Four Forces Theory]] — the thesis should adopt Orwell's method of honest observation before ideological framework ### Related Sources - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Peterson rec - 1984 - George Orwell]] — Wigan Pier is the nonfiction foundation; 1984 is the fictional extension of Orwell's political analysis - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Sowell - Basic Economics]] — Both address poverty with attention to structural conditions; Sowell from an economic perspective, Orwell from a literary-documentary one - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Peterson - 12 Rules for Life An Antidote to Chaos]] — Peterson's emphasis on personal responsibility complements Orwell's docu

Life rewards action, not intelligence. The smarter you are, the better your excuses. The more accomplished you are in talking yourself out of taking action. Improving to yourself that every action that you could take is too small, too meaningless, and not worth it. George Leonard, who brought Jiu Jitsu from Japan to the US. One of the things he said is, absolutely, you cannot do everything, but you can do one thing, and another, and another. And that's the way you make massive progress in life. The matter that you show up and try and act week after week, month after month, year after year, with a little bit of intelligence you start to get better and better and better. Even if the action is poor action, you're going to learn something from it. Discipline is necessary in our life in order to generate consistent systematic action. But I think until you measure something that matters, you do not know if you're disciplined. Action leads you to grow, leads you to engage with others. Action, everything good in life happens when you're off the sofa and engaging with the world. Find the measure of something that matters. Pay attention to whether you're making progress on the actions that lead to that measure. And look at what needs to happen in your discipline so that you value action above thinking or intending to take action. ## Caption / Post Text Follow @incometips for daily business content. So in his mega bestseller Range by David Epstein. He shows that evolutionary gains in IQ over the generations are attributed to this broader diverse set of Knowledge, not specialization. So why is this so critical with AI? Well, Generalists excel at adapting because of their diverse experiences and this agility and versatility mirrors how AI like chat GPT functions at peak performance on the chief AI architect at NYU Stern And I was literally just writing about this in my newsletter. So here's four specific gifts that generalists need to lean into first Your adaptability and knowledge Generalists don't tend to see new knowledge as a threat but are quicker to embrace it and that is critical when using AI Second, you are excellent at synthesizing broad concepts, which is also where chat GPT excels at connecting dots to create these innovative new solutions Third, rapid learning and application. So as generalists, you have to learn new concepts fast and put them into practice really fast and partnering with generative AI Like chat GPT will augment what you are already great at and fourth navigating change This tech is moving so quickly in generalists tend to be able to ride waves rather than getting sucked down into one specific area and that agility is critical in this new world. So ## Caption / Post Text Why generalists will rule AI. #ai #chatgpt ## Key Claims - **If you're a generalist, there's mounting evidence that you have certain skills that will allow you to master AI in ways that Specialists aren't able to do as easily and this is not just me saying this.** - **So in his mega bestseller Range by David Epstein.** - **He shows that evolutionary gains in IQ over the generations are attributed to this broader diverse set of Knowledge, not specialization.** - **So why is this so critical with AI? Well, Generalists excel at adapting because of their diverse experiences and this agility and versatility mirrors how AI like chat GPT functions at peak performance on the chief AI architect at NYU Stern And I was literally just writing about this in my newsletter.** - **So here's four specific gifts that generalists need to lean into first Your adaptability and knowledge Generalists don't tend to see new knowledge as a threat but are quicker to embrace it and that is critical when using AI Second, you are excellent at synthesizing broad concepts, which is also where chat GPT excels at connecting dots to create these innovative new solutions Third, rapid learning and application.** ## Topic Application - **ai**: AI/tech ## Caveats ## Related Sources (Idea-to-Idea) - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Wealth - big shift years tech used tools industry]] — both point to AI opportunity beyond narrow specialization: the tech source says the major value will likely be in applications, while the generalist source argues broad experience is what lets people adapt AI into useful applications. - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[I have no technical ability]] — the generalist source says cross-domain judgment and adaptability can beat narrow specialization with AI; the PM/music clip makes the same point in miniature by valuing taste and expression over technical operation. ## Linkages

It's a full-body experience for a woman, right? I mean, first of all, she's pregnant and that's a hell of a thing, especially in the last month. Then she has to give birth and I think that's something men have no real comprehension of. And then she has to recover and then that baby is like desperately vulnerable and requires everything the woman has to provide for the first, absolutely for the first two months. So you've got to stand in the background and you've got to watch her. And you've got to make sure that she doesn't get overwhelmed, because that's when you need to be in there. You need to go in and say, look, you know, you need a rest. I'll take care of the baby, I'll watch and so everything's going fine and I'll wake you up if it's necessary. But you've got to spell her off. That's how it looks to me is her primary responsibilities to take care of the baby. Sowell argues that the fundamental economic and political challenge is the asymmetry of knowledge: the people who have local, tacit knowledge about their own circumstances are rarely the people with decision-making power, and the people with power rarely have the local knowledge needed to make good decisions. The book analyzes how different institutional structures — markets, traditions, legal systems, political processes — handle this knowledge asymmetry. ## Key Claims - **The knowledge problem as political problem:** Centralization of decision-making inevitably means decisions are made by people who lack the specific, local, tacit knowledge of those affected — a structural problem no amount of intelligence can overcome. - **Incremental vs. categorical decision-making:** Markets allow incremental, reversible, individual decisions; politics forces categorical, often irreversible, collective decisions — making political errors far more costly and harder to correct. - **The role of tradition as compressed knowledge:** Customs, norms, and cultural practices encode generations of trial-and-error learning that no single generation could replicate through deliberate reasoning. - **Intellectuals as decision-distorters:** The intelligentsia systematically overestimate the value of their own knowledge and underestimate the value of dispersed, tacit knowledge embedded in markets and traditions. ## Notable Quotes > "The most fundamental political question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best." > > "Knowledge is distributed in fragments, and the great achievement of a social order is the coordination of those fragments." > > "Tradition is the distilled experience of generations, a compressed knowledge that no single mind could replicate." > > "Intellectuals systematically overestimate the value of their own knowledge and underestimate the value of dispersed, tacit knowledge." ## Relevance to thesis Knowledge and Decisions provides the epistemological foundation for the Caribbean Wealth thesis: that [[Concept - Inherited Financial Code]] — the cultural practices, habits, and orientations passed down through generations — is a form of compressed, tacit knowledge that centralized policy-making cannot replicate or improve upon. The knowledge asymmetry between Caribbean communities and the distant policymakers who design interventions for them is the structural reason why paternalistic programs fail. [[Concept - Personal Agency]] is not just a moral preference but an epistemological necessity: the people closest to the problem have the knowledge needed to solve it. ## Topics & Tags **Stance:** reinforces — provides epistemological foundation for the Caribbean Wealth thesis ## Connections ### Related Sources - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Sowell - A Conflict of Visions]] — The philosophical framework applied to the knowledge problem - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Sowell - Intellectuals and Society]] — The expanded analysis of intellectual knowledge-claims - **[TENSION]** [[Sowell - Basic Economics]] — Basic Economics simplifies what Knowledge and Decisions theorizes at depth ### Related Concepts - [[Concept - Inherited Financial Code]] — cultural inheritance as compressed, tacit knowledge - [[Concept - Personal Agency]] — local knowledge as the reason agency must be individual, not centralized - [[Concept - Lost Maintainers]] — what is lost when traditions are displaced by expert design ### Appears In - [[Caribbean Wealth Attitudes - Four Forces Theory]] ## Extraction Metadata | Field | Value | |---|---| | Extraction Method | web_research | | Confidence | high | | Duration | N/A | | Transcript Length | N/A | | Fallbacks Used | 0 | ## Notes - Source note created from web research; no transcript available for book sources. - Quotes sourced from published works and widely cited references. - Extends Hayek's knowledge problem into a comprehensive theory of social decision-making. --- **Created:** 2026-06-19 **Last Updated:** 2026-06-19 **Run ID:** sowell-source-note

And all young men are angry about that. When you're looking at a gang, you're looking at young males who have no old man to welcome them into the male world. They're trying desperately to do it themselves. They're trying to teach each other what courage is, how much pain you should endure, what a cause is. They're trying to do it. It doesn't work because young males cannot initiate each other. But they're angry at the absence of the older males who are not doing that. Well, when this group of old male initiators disappears, then everything falls on the father. The father is supposed to do everything. And when the young man that I talked to realized that their father could not have done that, then they began thinking of the things their father did do to try to initiate them. Oftentimes they're touched, they weep when they think of the possibility. So when the older father was only intended to keep us through the age of 35 and make sure we didn't get even my hands and stuff like that, he was never intended to initiate us. And when the father is gone, it's happened so often in America today. Often it's just a single mother who has left to do it all, the initiation. That's right. And women try very hard with that. And I remember, I said of that thing in Evans, and I said, you know, a woman can bring a boy, can bring the boy from the fetus to be a boy, but she cannot move him from a boy to being a man. Only other men can do that. And some of the women got angry. And another woman said, I think he's right because when I was, my boy was in high school, I knew that he needed something harder than I could give him. And if I did that, I'd lose my own femininity. So it's just to say that women try very hard with this. And it's hopeless. They cannot really guide a boy all the way to being a man. That's a job for the men to do. And if a woman is in that situation, then she should recognize that and try to find some older men that she trusts. And ask him to hold the boy in his heart. It isn't necessary that he take the boy to the zoo every other day. But many young men do not know a single older man who encourages them or holds them in their heart. ## Caption / Post Text In 1990, Robert Bly said something most people still don’t understand about men: When there are no older men to guide them, boys try to figure out manhood on their own. And it doesn’t work. For most of history, a boy wasn’t left to guess what it meant to be a man. He was welcomed into it. By older men. By mentors. By people who had already walked the path. That process was called initiation. And when that disappears, something else takes its place: Confusion. Anger. Posturing. You see it in gangs. You see it in friend groups. You see it in guys trying to prove themselves to each other without ever being grounded by someone older. Young men start asking each other questions they were never meant to answer alone. What is strength? How much pain should I endure? What does it mean to be a man? And no one in the room actually knows. That frustration doesn’t come from nowhere. It comes from absence. From not having a man who sees you, challenges you, and calls you forward. This isn’t about blaming fathers. Because as Bly points out, fathers alone also can’t initiate. It’s about recognizing that a lot of men were never welcomed into manhood in the first place, even the fathers. That is one of the reasons I wrote Tough Enough. Men don’t need

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no I need a hundred and twenty percent Every time you walk A lot of people in the comments were saying he's doing too much and this is why I always say everyone is a meant to be a business owner Because everybody wants to own the business until this is the expectation Would you saw right there? That's the real price of ownership Finding the right team is the hardest part because nobody sees your vision like you do No one feels what you feel when something is off to you the business is your name your reputation Your future to them is just a job a shift to clock in clock out thing And if you don't understand that gap you'll either become too soft or too frustrated one bad products Hurnes into two and then two turns into a reputation Now your business is known for something that you never intended But this is a truth that people don't like to hear you can not hire passion You can hire skill you can try and behavior but no one is going to care about your business the way you do And it's because they didn't believe for they wasn't there they weren't like you were So the goal isn't to find people that care like you because that's unrealistic The goal is to find people that respect standards because smart founders They don't hire for passion they hire for alignment and discipline people who don't need to feel motivated Because they just execute the standard and honestly as a business owner You have to stop looking for people who love your business and start looking for people who can follow a standard without being a Reminded because passion is inconsistent but standards aren't but here's where most owners get stuck They try to feel that gap with pressure with intensity with speeches But pressure doesn't scale at some point you have to translate to a standard into something that works without you Systems structure accountability because of excellence is only happening when you watching that means you don't have a standard That's just supervision and this is the real transition that no one prepares before you have to go from being the one who does it right To the one who builds something that forces it to be done right ## Caption / Post Text Everybody talks about making money but nobody talks about creating & maintaining a standard 💯 ## Key Claims - Take a field and emotions out and listen to what I'm really trying to say food high fresh You see them real They looking door and I'll put them on nobody guys Let hey bag them up. - You don't matter here. - Let's get some ones that sit here that need to be in here Quality I started in the backyard in my house When you build something and you come from your backyard to a food truck to a brick and mortar I'm on tea Because look what you come from It's the freaking journey man. - Then you get up here and you need some people

In Mafia/Werewolf, a minority group (informed) tries to eliminate a majority group (uninformed) through social deduction. The post draws parallels to real-world dynamics where smaller, informed groups exert control over larger, less informed populations. Video from @triggerpod, speaker @glinner. In Mafia (and its variations like Werewolf), players assume different roles: some belong to a minority group (the "mafia" or "werewolves") who know each other's identities, while others are part of a majority group (the "villagers") who must deduce who belongs to the minority. The minority group's goal is to eliminate the majority without being discovered, while the majority aims to identify and eliminate the minority. This setup can be interpreted as a metaphor for real-world dynamics where a smaller, informed group exerts control over a larger, less informed group. Video - @triggerpod Speaker - @glinner ## Key Claims - **Mafia (1986, Dmitry Davidoff) as a social deduction game modeling power dynamics** - **The game's structure — informed minority vs. uninformed majority — mirrors real-world power asymmetries** - **Social deduction as a lens for understanding how information asymmetry enables control** - **The metaphor extends to any system where a smaller, informed group exerts control over a larger, less informed population** ## Topic Application - **psychology**: Social deduction, group dynamics, and power psychology - **philosophy**: Information asymmetry as a model for real-world power structures - **culture**: Game culture as a reflection of social dynamics ## Caveats - Post inaccessible during vision capture (HTTP response code failure). Whoever you are, whatever you are doing, your worst enemy is your ego. One of the biggest reasons why the ego is your opponent is because it prevents you from connecting with reality. Your arrogance is what restricts you from getting essential feedback from others. Ego makes you excessively estimate your strengths and significance and underestimate the importance of others' perspectives and contributions. It blinds you to your own flaws and limitations, hindering personal growth and inhibiting genuine connections with others. In essence, ego distorts your perception of reality. Your ego is the sum of your experiences. All it wants to do is protect you, but that isn't always best for you in the long run. What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do. Your ego is a master of manipulation. Instead of succumbing to its fears and getting stuck, become aware of how it holds you back. Then you can set yourself free and live the life you truly want. Your ego would rather win than do the right thing. ## Caption / Post Text Discord Sever in the link in bio 🔥Want to learn how to grow your social media presence on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and more? They're companies that are competitive and they're companies that have monopolies. If you're one of a kind company, a happy company that's doing something different, you are a monopoly. It is the goal of every founder, of every entrepreneur. It should be their goal to try to build a monopoly business. Most people believe that capitalism and competition are synonyms. And I believe capitalism and competition are antonyms. I believe that a capitalist is someone who's in the business of accumulating capital. A world of perfect competition is a world where all the profits are competed away. The example I sort of used throughout a bad type of business to go into is opening a restaurant, which is super competitive and nobody ever makes any money doing it. The example of a fantastic monopoly business I give is Google which basically has had no competition in search since 2002. ## Caption / Post Text Venture capitalist Peter Thiel, JD ‘92, founded PayPal and was the first major investor in Facebook, shared business tips from his new book, Zero to One. #thekeycreate ## Key Claims - There are two kinds of companies in this world. - They're companies that are competitive and they're companies that have monopolies. - If you're one of a kind company, a happy company that's doing something different, you are a monopoly. - It is the goal of every founder, of every entrepreneur. - It should be their goal to try to build a monopoly business. ## Topic Application - **wealth**: Business/finance - **practical**: Practical skills - **culture**: Culture ## Caveats ## Related Sources (Idea-to-Idea) - [[how to learn to run a company]] — **[COMPLEMENTS]**: Jobs' questioning of "the way it's done" and Thiel's "build a monopoly" both challenge conventional competitive thinking. ## Linkages - [[Concept - Money Scripts]] — money scripts / inherited financial beliefs - [ - [[Concept - Money Scripts]] — money scripts / inherited financial beliefs - [[Concept - Ownership Gap and Capital Markets]] — ownership and capital access - [[Concept - Ownership Gap and Capital Markets]] — ownership, capital, assets

I strongly disagree that this is a Gen Z thing. This is a Gen X thing. My people came up with this. Or at least we made it mainstream to say, if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best. That every part of my personality is sacred, even the parts that everybody else hates. We were the ones who promoted the idea that anything you're asked to do to make it easier to make friends or find dates is a form of selling out. That it's not being true to yourself. And when I point this out, people will always reply to say, well, do you really want people to betray their core values just to become more popular? And the answer is, of course not, but here's the trick we played, the trick that we passed on to the next generation. We made it sound like all of our preferences are core values. That the bands we listen to is not just because we like the sound of their music. This is the band for people who are more sensitive, who have a more rich inner life. So if you don't like the exact same music in movies and video games that we like, that means you're not a good person. This sets up a situation where nothing about you can be challenged because everything is either a sacred core value or a medical issue. See, we're the ones who are constantly talking about the importance of understanding trauma and abuse. And that's great. But this very quickly gets folded into the same trend to say that any time I made to feel uncomfortable around other people, that is a form of trauma and abuse. Even though in real life, it is impossible to have any kind of actual friend group or community without sometimes feeling shame or frustration or annoyance. Those are all normal. But look at the absolutely diabolical trap this creates. To say, if my behaviors cause you anxiety too bad, you can't ask me to change. But if your behaviors cause me anxiety, you are guilty of a crime. It is inherently anti-social. It sets up a situation where the only safe relationship is one that is held at arm's length or done through a screen. And because it was my generation that were the first internet users, we established the culture of the internet and then this is the ecosystem that Gen Z was born into. ## Caption / Post Text *(None)* ## Key Claims - The, I don't owe anyone anything mentality is one of the worst things to come out of Gen Z because it has created an epidemic of people complaining about loneliness while thinking they don't owe anyone basic manners or communication. - I strongly disagree that this is a Gen Z thing. - This is a Gen X thing. - My people came up with this. - Or at least we made it mainstream to say, if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best. ## Topic Application - **ai**: AI/tech - **local**: Barbados/Caribbean - **culture**: Culture ## Caveats ## Related Sources (Idea-to-Idea) - **[TENSION]** [[Relationships - Let tell something]] — 8680db9563cd critiques the "I don't owe anyone anything" mentality as creating an epidemic of loneliness; c_kxno0yi8g dramatizes a child telling a parent "I owe you nothing" with moral weight. The Apostle Paul, a great Apostle Paul who accomplished so much in his life, the reason he accomplished so much was not only because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, not only because he spent time in prayer and read the Word of God, but also because he disciplined his body, verse 27, 1 Corinthians 9, 27. I discipline my body which means my eyes, my tongue especially, and I make it my slave. The Living Bible says, I don't allow my body to do what it wants to do, but I make my body do what it should do. You know the difference between what your body should do and what it wants to do, what your eyes want to say, and what your eyes should see, what your tongue wants to say, and what your tongue should be saying. I make my body do what it should do, not what it wants to do. That is discipline in very simple life. And if you don't have discipline, I don't care what experience you had about speaking in tongues or being filled with the Holy Spirit. I can tell you you will not make it in the final day because Paul says and he's Paul was far better than all of us. He says, if I don't discipline my body, 1 Corinthians 9, 27 like this, if I don't make my body do what it should do, I will end up preaching to so many people and finally when I reach the finishing line, I'll be disqualified. He's talking about a race in verse 24 on Wednesday. ## Caption / Post Text *(None)* ## Key Claims - **Discipline is the one thing that Christians need the most but want the least in one Corinthians in chapter 9.** - **The Apostle Paul, a great Apostle Paul who accomplished so much in his life, the reason he accomplished so much was not only because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, not only because he spent time in prayer and read the Word of God, but also because he disciplined his body, verse 27, 1 Corinthians 9, 27.** - **I discipline my body which means my eyes, my tongue especially, and I make it my slave.** - **The Living Bible says, I don't allow my body to do what it wants to do, but I make my body do what it should do.** - **You know the difference between what your body should do and what it wants to do, what your eyes want to say, and what your eyes should see, what your tongue wants to say, and what your tongue should be saying.** ## Topic Application - **other**: General ## Caveats ## Related Sources ## Related Sources (Idea-to-Idea) - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Marcus Aurelius on the two worst vices - lack of persistence and self-control]] — Both place self-control and persistence near the center of the moral life: Marcus names lack of persistence and self-control as grave vices, while the Corinthians source frames bodily discipline as necessary to finish the race. - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Discipline - you're devoting between hours day craft you're trying]] — Both contrast what the body or ego wants with what the disciplined person must do; one applies the principle to Christian obedience, the other to becoming professional-level at a craft. - **[COMPLEMENTS]** [[Emotional Maturity Stages 1-5 - How Handling Emotions Shapes Our Choices]] — The Corinthians source defines discipline as making the body do what it should; the maturity-stage framework describes the same movement developmentally, from reactive impulse to disciplined, strategic action. ## Linkages - [[Concept - Attitude Gap]] — attitude gap, mindset difference - [[Concept - Personal Agency]] — personal agency, taking control
